Coming up with fresh fundraising ideas for your local community group can be difficult – you’ve already had five bake-sales this year and done two charity marathons, so what’s left? A great idea is compiling a book based around the theme of your organisation or your local community as a whole. Two possible compilations are a cookery book of family recipes from the community, or a book that is a stroll down memory lane for local residents.
In compiling either of these, a well-organised team is required. If collecting personal items, label everything so that it can be properly returned after being photographed or scanned. You can fund the publication costs by selling advertising on your website or newsletter, or by striking a deal with a local printer – free publicity for their participation.
A community cookbook is easy to compile and can be truly charming. A range of recipes can be sourced from young and old members of the community to give a real taste of your area. It can be themed around regional produce, or if for example your charity works with children, it can be based on food that kids will love.
An anthology of local memories is also a popular theme. This idea relies heavily on sourcing memorabilia from the local community including photos, letters, newspaper clippings and other mementos. Why not interview some senior citizens and tell their stories?
Both of these fundraising ideas are sure to appeal to people and help your organisation on its way to raising much needed funds.
